Well, you can easily google on that matter.
The last remainig of the real iD members was Sandy Petersen.
And when Carmack left to work for Oculus VR project there had been lawsuite from Zenimax claimed that he used thier intellectual property. Carmack initiated retaliative lawsute since he was underpaied by Zenimax and won. But this story still has been an unexpected torpedo for Oculus Rift. That happened couple of years ago.
So, think wisely, whom exactly you bring you money. And how the new IP holder will treat years of the fan-made legacy. Carmack is a difficult person but he gave the green lite and blessing to all those who supported DOOM all these 25 years. That includes the source codes of course. While Zenimax demonstrated very very aquisitive behavior till far.

P. S. And DOOM Zero itself is really good. Mix of later parts of DOOM and earlier parts of DOOM II. Worth playing. Related topic @ Doomworld.

Thanks for claryfying that. I knew some of that, but haven't connected the dots.

On the other hand the good thing is, that more people will be aware of Doom Zero (like me here) so creator does get some more credit.

I'll be waiting on Crystal Doom, Doom Twist, Doom Raw, Doom True, Black Cherry Doom, Orange Vanilla Doom and Dr. Doom... wait, scratch that last one.

So, uh, when was Kevin Cloud excluded from the "real" id members, pray tell?
Also, they adopted it with the author's explicit permission. We should be happy because it means more people would get to play this piece of fanmade content, especially our console brethren.

As for Zenimax v Oculus, Oculus lost that one. And Carmack didn't win his counter lawsuit against Zenimax, it was settled out of court.
