If patch 1.0.5.7 is older than the install version 2.3.0, then why is it still available as a download? Shouldn't people be reinstalling from the new download?

If patch 1.0.5.7 is newer than the install version 2.3.0, then why does the numbering suggest otherwise? Shouldn't it be named patch 2.3.0.57?

I dislike downloading 9GB of Divinity: Original Sin every time there's a new version, but I'm afraid of messing up my game anyway by running a patch that tries to "downgrade" my game.

1.0.57 is the current version of the game itself. As Larian release more patches this number will increase. It should just by replacing that patch file and not an entire new installer.

2.3.0.6 is the version of the gog installer (as in just the gog installer software, not the game itself). This number shouldn't go up at all for a long time (like when they have to update for a new version of Windows, etc)

As to why they label it that way I have no clue.
That is good info, Majnun.

But what version of divinity does the current gog downloader download? Does it need the patch or not? Is there a place to look for this info, so we don't have to use the trial-and-error method or the go-ask-on-the-forum method?

Once you install the game the version number is shown in the main menu, under the column of buttons. I didn't re-download the full installer, so don't know what the current version is.
Not sure about D:OS, but with other games GOG patch installers gave you an error if patch was already applied. So you shouldn't mess anything by applying patches.

So we waste our time downloading stuff we may not need. This inefficiency irritates my OCD.
Ah. For those who would like to know: as of about 10PM Pacific time, on 7/9/14, the gog installer was installing the 1.0.57.0 version. Which is the same version as that patch.

It just changed to updated on my shelf, but shows patch 1.0.57.
Someone knows what changed?
A patch for the Mac version.
The confusion comes from GOG's silly practice to use the installer's version on the filename instead of the game's version.

They should really change this policy.

I have the full 2.2.0.4 installer which I think has game ver.1.0.51. The patch 2.3.0.7 has game 1.0.57.
Now I see they updated full installers to 2.3.0.6. I have no clue what's the game's version in there. And this is for one game only. It's getting kinda hard to keep track actually.

Maybe Galaxy will ease the process, but in any case they should make it easier for the users to tell what's the game's version in the installer, before they download and install the thing.

Longstanding wish.

Thanks, I had no idea that so many find the current practice annoying :D
Voted.
I just came to the forum to post this. Glad to see I'm not the only one irritated by this. Two months from now I will have no idea what's what (I'm not sure I do now) and will probably have to download everything again. Ungh!!!
Frankly I've been ignoring the patches, they're coming out so fast right now. Haven't hit any major bugs so far, so I haven't needed to. Some of the patches themselves apparently broke more than they fixed, so I'm holding off for now. More time playing, less downloading. :)
