Hi there!
I just got the GOG version of Divine Divinity.
It installs fine, and plays fine on Win7 x64.

The problem I have is that whenever I move my character, my screen seems to darken a bit and flickers very rapidly...

It's very annoying, stressful on my eyes and frankly I'm afraid it might damage my screen with prolonged use. I should also mention that when standing still the image is perfect.

I'm running the game on a Sony 32" HD screen at it's native resolution of 1360x768.
I have tried about ALL resolutions from 800x600 up to 1080p with no positive result.

I have also downloaded the old config tool and tried D3D, DDraw and software versions with no success.

Please help! I didn't find anyone else having this specific problem on the forum.
I really love this game, but it's unplayable for me due to this issue.

If useful, my system specs are:
Win7 x64
Core i7 2600K
Nvidia Gtx 560Ti
16GB ddr3

I assume you installed as an admin but have you right clicked the game shortcut, clicked Properties, clicked the Compatibility tab and check-marked "Run this program as an administrator". Also check "Disable Visual Themes" and "Disable Desktop Composition".

Check this post for basic install tips if no joy from the above.

In the Compatibly tab you could also disable display scaling, and maybe try running the game in Win 98/ME compatibly mode, etc.

Have you checked for updated graphics drivers, etc?

Using the old config tool, try enabling the 'Use Alphabit' option, or edit the config.div file in the Divine Divinity folder and in the line 'Alpha bit 0' change the 0 to a 1 (or vise versa).

Do you have the latest version of DirectX 9c installed? If it was a DirectX problem, though, you'd think switching to software mode with the old config tool would have made a difference.

You could try setting the game to run on a single CPU core. Alt-tab out of the game, right click on the taskbar and click "Task Manager", then when it comes up right click on "div.exe" and select "Set Affinity".
Hey guys,

Thanks for your replies.
Unfortunately, I've had no luck with your suggestions.

I even tried messing around with the Nvidia control panel's "manage 3D settings" options.
Tried enabling/disabling all options... nothing!

I don't get it. The best way to describe the problem is comparing it to the flicker and screen tear you sometimes get when vsync is disabled in modern 3D games, only that much faster (btw I did try forcing enable/disable vsync).

The only thing that comes to my mind is that it might be linked to some king of screen refresh incompatibility with my monitor. My screen is fixed at 60hz., and maybe the game is used to higher Hertz of older monitors...

Anybody other suggestions? I'm stomped!
Someone else reported a similar issue here, but minor and just when they selected a resolution that did not match the aspect ratio of their monitor.

In the original release of Divinity 2, some people encountered stuttering issues which could be fixed by limiting FPS of the game. This could be done using a third party program (see For people with stuttering graphics) or tweaking a setting in nVidia's control panel (limit the number a frames a particular game can render ahead in DirectX; for D2:ED the recommendation was to drop the default value of 3 to 1). I don't know if that would help with your problem (DD using a different engine and being an older game), but it wouldn't hurt to check.

You could try getting the game running in a window (Windowed mode?), and see if that makes a difference.

If you used the old config tool and it didn't help I recommend you set rendering back to Direct 3D and delete the tool. Make sure you run the old config tool as an admin as the change might not work without doing so. BTW, if you didn't run it as an admin the first time (right-click the exe and click "Run as an Administrator") it might be worth a try to do so before deleting it. Either way, if it doesn't help I would set rendering back to Direct 3D.

Here is a link to the latest DirectX runtime download that Raze mentioned above. I've had to install it on a couple of Win7 (and Vista) systems in order to get an old game to run correctly. I recommend downloading the dxwebsetup.exe rather than running it from the web. Run the installer as an admin as well.

Rats! No luck guys! :(

It definitely seems to be an issue with my LCD.
I even dusted off my old copy of Beyond Divinity, and the games runs silky smooth right out of the box, but it suffers from the same problem.

Maybe it's just something the game normally has, but my LCD is too sensitive and it's over-accentuating it. Something that is not noticeable on smaller or older screens (I played these games originally on a 19" CRT and never saw this flicker).

It's a shame. Looks like I'll have to get my Divinity fix from the newer sequels.
Any idea if they're any good? I know they're in 3D, but has the gameplay changed much?

Anyways guys, thanks a mill for all your help and suggestions. I really apreesh!
There is a for [url=http://www.divinity2-saga.com]DKS if you want to check it out. The camera system is different (third person) but the music, humour, etc is similar. The quest system is more elaborate, with more branching side quests and different ways to complete quests. Being in 3D the world is not nearly as flat as DD/BD.
