I bought this game some months ago on the basis of the rave reviews. After numerous starts and restarts, I am beginning to wonder if I will ever get into enjoying it.
For the moment , about level up the characters. My lead is a fighter with a wizard as # 2. Should I apply points to and concentrate on the basics( strength , for example) before I start to allocate to things like Dual Wielding or sneaking?
I have read l lot about making a good character and using points to build wisely.. They came with warnings that it was easy to misappropriate attribute, talent, etc. points , thereby ruining the game.
Is it really that hard to just play and enjoy? Can I mess up the game if I do not follow some master plan.?
Any tips or comments on this stuff ?
Maybe I am over-thinking the process, but so far the game is annoyingly slow and complex. BG, Diablo lets one play , quest and fight. Divinity , or at least the guides I have read, make playing the game like rocket science.
Thanks
Strength increases carry weight and you can use weapons that require strenth such as 2 handed sword or shields and +6 Offense Rating per point for Strength-based Weapons.

Many spells are boosted by Intelligence Elemental skills (Aerotheurge, Geomancer, Hydrosophist, Pyrokinetic)
and Witchcraft skills . Every 2 intelligence points after 4 int reduces the cooldown of magic school skills by 1 turn until 10, then you don't reduce spells cooldown until 13. +6 Offense Rating per point for Intelligence-Based Weapons .

Dexterity boosts Expert Marksman skills
and Scoundrel skills . +6 Offense Rating per point for Dexterity-Based Weapons.

Perception helps with accuracy shooting over distance and detecting traps, +2% Critical Chance per point above 5 .

Constitution and speed are self explanitory, more health and more speed and AP.

So decide what you want to play like. Fighter might want strength and warfare. You want to boost his skill in dual wielding he must use two one handed weapons then. Its very simple in my opinion, It is just giving you the choice of how to plan out how you want the character to overcome obstacles.

An excellent guide for Divinity Original sind EE is this one:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/170514-divinity-original-sin-enhanced-edition/faqs/72764

Build up for stats , skills , talents and even traits.

Even though on some Points on skills on certain builds and what skills to get i have not always the same opinion as the writer.
