Hi there, I am a new player of D.D. and I am a bit surprised by the difficulty (I played on "Hard" because even the "tough" Gothic I was easy for me - so I thought I would survive).
Anyway, the very first dungeon was tough on me, so I decided to get some equipement instead. I pulled orcs on the big bad soldier on the South of the first city, and now I am wondering a few things :
- Do enemies outside repop, or did I destroy a source of experience point by pulling the orcs on the big bad guys.
- Will that person ever gain back his Health Points ?
- Is playing Survivors more boring / interesting than the other ? Reading quickly the titles of the thread of this forum, it seems that Magicians are OP, and I try to play different character in different game, and in my last game (Gothic II) I was a Fire Mage.
- Is overspecialisation in one weapon (Axe, Sword or Bow for instance) needed ? Are the weapon categories balanced ? If the answer is Yes in the first one and No in the second one, I hate the game already.
Thank you :)

Enemies do not repopulate in Divine Divinity, if you are fighting an enemy you have not fought that particular enemy before.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly, you will gain the ability to generate health points yourself. Some enemies can regenerate their health points as well. The Orc Drummer regenerates all Orcs health by beating his drum, best to take him out first. Some items/weapons/armor give you a faster regen rate.

It doesn't really matter what character you play, with few exceptions, all characters can use all magic and weapons. You decide what you want to advance your skills in and what weapons your character is most powerful with. You can be a survivor and be a powerful magic user. The special move is something unique to the character class.

Every weapon category will have some good weapons but you won't have to change weapons/armor as often in DD.
I specialize in one weapon and one magic skill to begin with (sword & Lightning), since you are very weak at the game start. As I get stronger, I add more magic and defense rather than putting points into multiple weapon skills. If you like a bow, increase your bow skills, a sword likewise, left click weapon, right click magic. You can use nothing but magic weapons with any character or nothing but melee weapons if you prefer that. You can spend points increasing every weapon skill but that is a waste of skill points IMHO.
I put some game tips in this post and there are other character building tips in the forum.
Hope this helps . . .=)
Stuff, I believe the Health Points question is referring to guards or 'friendlies' that you can decoy enemies into. They don't regain Health Points, and it's a bad idea to decoy a strong monster towards a populated area since it could take out NPCs. As far as weapons go, I believe melee is penalized since bows can do significant damage at range and you get a really cheap elemental attack. In regards to the characters, all characters will develop the fighting, mage, and survivor skills. I don't want to add more details since it could constitue a spoiler.

Thank you for the info. I ll try to kill those Orcs myself then instead of pulling them to a guard.
DaveOMM had the good understanding of my second question.
So-so game - but I believe the diable like part will stop as soon as I am out of the first village.

Sorry for misunderstanding . . . =)
I lead the Orcs back to Lord Seth on my first playthru as well. He does not regen his health nor do I know of a way to heal him. Fortunately, it seems he has a limited role and he survived for me. On my second playthru, I realized that I needed the experience points from the Orcs myself in order to level before the next section. I had also learned how powerful magic was and used Lightning to my advantage on the Orcs. Being Diablo trained, I had mostly ignored magic as a warrior. It doesn't cripple the game to use Lord Seth or Lord Markham but it does rob you of experience points.
It does get more open after Aleroth and grows on you as you get use to the gameplay.
