Friend & I both recently acquired the game and we've been unable to make a successful multiplayer connection. (We're both using macs.) Direct connection in either direction fails, with no further explanation. Also, even though I've enabled it in the main game options menu, when I try to check the direct connect box in the connection options menu during multiplayer game creation it says the setting change failed. (The game also crashes whenever I change multiplayer settings in the main game options.) We're at loose ends without a more useful error message. Any thoughts? Either fixes for the direct connect failure or other options?

(I really don't want to have to buy the game through Steam just so we can enjoy multiplayer!)

Porphyry: Direct connection in either direction fails
There is an update planned to add Galaxy support to the EE.

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game? Firewalls have also caused conflicts, and could be blocking a connection.

Try lowering the game resolution and switching to windowed mode, to check if there are any error messages or popup windows triggered either when connecting or trying to change options.

You could try a LAN connection, but since you apparently aren't on the same local network, you'd have to use VPN software such as Hamachi.

Try verifying local files. If you are using the Galaxy client, select Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition in the left column, then click on the More button, and in the Manage menu select 'Verify / Repair'.
Otherwise, there is a different verification method:

Terminal
bash-3.2$ cd ~/Library/Application\ Support\ ... up to the Divinity - Original Sin.app folder
bash-3.2$ codesign -vvv Divinity\ -\ Original\ Sin.app

This takes a while, and will output some lines starting with '--prepared' or '--validated'. If everything is fine, it will end with:

Divinity - Original Sin.app: valid on disk
Divinity - Original Sin.app: satisfies its Designated Requirement

If that doesn't help, please email supportdos@larian.com, with a description of the problem (or link to this topic), the system specs for both systems and a crash report.
To get system specs you can use the 'System Report' button from the 'About This Mac' Apple menu item or the 'System Information' app (in the utilities folder). Crash reports are collected in the 'Console' application.
