It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I've been playing Divine Divinity in Windows 7 with no problems, but now after upgrading to Windows 8 it is extremely slow to start the game.

The sword loading thing fills up very slowly. Plus the game has lots of slowdown now. Anyone else having this problem?

PROBLEM SOLVED: Had to change to Software mode in settings and it works perfectly.

Have you tried right clicking on the game shortcut (or executable), selecting Properties and in the Compatibility tab setting it to run in Win9x or XP mode, disable desktop composition and visual themes, etc?

I've tried running in Windows 7 mode & the XP modes. Will give the other things you suggested a try. Thanks.

After looking into it, apparently you can't disable desktop composition or visual themes in windows 8 :(

Detailed solution:
1. Install nGlide 1.02 then install original CD release of DD (official patch 1.0033A or 1.0034A is also recommended). Run DD config tool ('Configure Divine Divinity' shortcut in the main menu) and set Glide mode.
-OR-
2. Install GoG/Steam/Larian Vault/etc digital release of DD, run DD config tool and set Software Mode.
Also, you can run the configuration program directly from the executable in the Divine Divinity install folder (configtool.exe), or there should be a shortcut in the Start menu folder for the game.
