Hi there,

Divine Divinity works fine on my w7 64 but i want to be able to play it in windowed mode. I've read in a previous topic that the game works using vmware player + windows xp using the old configurator tool to switch from direct3d to directdraw. I've tried it and i can play but i have problems when exiting the game or playing the intro.

The problem is that the game freezes for some seconds if i'm lucky but most of the time it just hangs (but i can still hear the music) and i cannot return to windows without rebooting the virtual machine. The problem also appears in the old config tool when testing, the logo appears and then it freezes for some seconds until the computer becomes responsive again.

The problem is gone by disabling directdraw/direct3d by going to windows screen properties / settings / advanced / Troubleshoot and setting the Hardware acceleration to Disable all DirectDraw and Direct3D accelerations but doing so makes the cursor and the game in general to run really badly.

I remember there was a video posted in youtube to make the game work under vmware but the video got deleted. Am i missing something?

this is the topic i'm talking about: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/divine_divinity_series/i_got_it_working_on_vmware_player_xp_guest_os

AFAIK, DD does not support / run in a window. I will refer you to this post.
When DD was first released here the lead Dev from Larian Studios said it would not run in a window without a 3rd party program. The thread linked above is where he posted this again. He posted as "DeathKnight". So far, no program has been offered as a solution.

I don't see any reason for it to run in a window, inside VMWare, inside XP. I am also running DD on a native XP install and cannot get it to run windowed. Some may consider the game running full screen in a VMWare window to be "running in a window"

Hope someone will post a solution . . . =)

no, what i'm doing is run it under full screen but inside a guest OS (Windows XP) in VMWare Player. This way the game runs in full screen inside VMWare, but VMWare is windowed so this is like playing the game in windowed mode.

The thing is that i'm getting the problems exposed in the first post by doing it.

The User Myst32 states that he managed to get it working under vmware in this post http://www.gog.com/en/forum/divine_divinity_series/i_got_it_working_on_vmware_player_xp_guest_os

maybe i'll try to contact him :-)

If i don't find a solution i'll have to play it full screen on my w7 (not a problem really :-) )

I thought that was what you were doing. You might reply to Myst32's post but I have not seen him posting since that post. No one really confirmed that the fix actually worked an he seems to have removed it. Good luck, if you find a solution, please post it for others . . . =)
