I've had this game on GOG for ages after it was available for free during one of their offers a while back, but have only just got around to playing :)

I'm playing as a thief type character and have already reached level 5 lockpicking, but...

...I need lockpicks and they're so few and far between, it's kind of ruining the game for me now.

Yes, I know they can drop as loot and typical RPG pack-rat that I am, I search through every barrel and chest I encounter, but I just can't find enough lockpicks! Additionally, I've bought every lockpick I can find on NPC vendors and even more frustratingly, they never seem to restock?

Any pointers would be appreciated, as I've reached a location in the Dark Forest where I need to unlock some doors, but without any lockpicks left, I'm absolutely stumped and tempted to just uninstall the game, such is my frustration.

Not sure you're posting on the right game. In Divinity 2 opening locks is a matter of adding points to the skill. Skill is high enough, chest or whatever opens. I have mine at 3/5 and haven't found a chest yet I couldn't open. (admittedly only about 3 or 4 hours into the game) In the game tutorial there is a skill book you can find (if you're persitent and like to try to jump onto impossible spots) that you can use to level it up right away. Good luck with the game
Being deliberately vague for spoiler reasons. There is a set of unique infinite use lockpicks that is part of a fetch quest. Fail to complete the quest and they're yours.

Also there is little to no point in using lock picks on locked breakable containers. Just a lockpick conservation tip.

All the above pertains to Divine Divinity. I have yet to play Divinity 2.

I think you picked the hardest build. Eventually, if you play your cards right, you can get a magic lockpick that doesn't break. Until then, you'll likely never be able to pick everything but, for many locked things, if you search hard enough, there's a key. I'm not really sure - I tend to blend games together - but I think you break fewer picks with more SPs put into lockpicking. Certain merchants seem to have more of them too - possibly the shady one in Rivertown is a good one to check.
