Hi,

every time I open the main menu in the game (in order to save, for example) I have to wait for around 10 seconds until something happens. I think I had a similar problem the last time I played the game (some years ago on another computer), but I can't recall the solution.

Everything else is fine and smooth. I'm playing on an Aspire 893 G, OS: Windows Vista.

Can anyone help me get rid of these tedious loading times?

Right click the game shortcut, click Properties in the resulting dialog, click the Compatibility tab and check mark "Run this program as an administrator". I would try this first with no compatibility . . . if no improvement . . . try the newest compatibility mode (top of Compatibility tab dialog) working your way from newest OS to oldest trying each one.

Also, DD does not work well with old video drivers so make sure you have the latest installed . . . =)

Edit: I use the "S" key to save as the Quick Save corrupted some saves for me. Here is a link to the key map which I found handy when I first started DD.

Normally, you won't experience any slowdowns with this game if you maintain your hard drive. But if you have a fragmented hard drive, you may experience some very bad issues with game freezing every few seconds. Defragmenting your hard drive should solve this issue.

Saving and loading times do take quite a long while, the latter even more so. You do not want to spend your time reloading the game too often.

Before the patches were released there were some crash issues with some systems, so it's rather sad that I have to inform you now that some of you might not be able to play the game right out of the box. But if you're reading this, then there is no doubt that you have access to the internet, so you should be able to download the game's patches (which aren't at all large) from the game's official website or from any number of game file websites out there. Needless to say, the majority of the bugs have been amended, so play should be flawless after the application of the patches. I've not experienced any serious technical issues that would have otherwise derailed my enjoyment of Divine Divinity after installing the latest patch.

If you are using the GOG version of Divine Divinity you are using the latest patch so there is no need to patch your GOG game. On the load screen, bottom right, it should say Ver 1.005A.

If you are using the retail version the last patch was 1.34 (1.0034) I believe. I would recommend buying the digital copy with the 1.005A patch (available here and at other sites) as many more bugs were fixed and it is a much more stable install than the retail copy with ver 1.34.
Hey,

thanks for your help. Sadly, none of the possible solutions did the trick for me (I'm using the GOG version by the way). However, since I use the quicksave key, the problem isn't that annoying anymore.

I believe we are using the same CPU, Intel Quad core?

The only other suggestion I have is to set the affinity to a single core. Some games have a problem with multi core CPUs. This is a cut and paste but should be relevant.

If you have a dual / quad core CPU you can also try the following.

There is a program I use to set the affinity to a single core on multicore systems. It helps on SOME systems to do this. You can set it manually first, if that does not help there is no need in using RunFirst

To set it manually, start the game, ALT-TAB out of the game, open task manager (CTRL - ALT - DEL ), find the div.exe on the Processes tab, right click the div.exe name and click Set affinity . . . on the resulting dialog. Un-check all but the CPU 0 check box. (See attached image) Close the task manager and play the game. If this helps I suggest using RunFirst as it sets the affinity for the game without having to go thru the task manager process each time you play.
