Apologies if this appears somewhere else, be dead grateful for any help though. I've read the very useful posts on re-assigning hot keys to non Function keys which seem to apply exclusively to PC op systems - is there any way to do this on the Mac version?

There is a way to get at the keylist.txt file; see Changing Resolution on Mac version. That should let you follow the procedure to change the hotkeys, assuming you can assign them in the first place (presumably Fn-control-F# or just control-F# if you have those keys set to standard function keys).
If you have a problem assigning the hotkeys, I can edit a save to give myself all the skills, and assign them (and healing/restoration potions) in groups to be able to determine which number code is used for each in the keylist file.
I didn't have any problems playing DD1 on my Mac using the F keys to map skills.

The only problem I had, for quite a while until I figured it out by trial & error, was how to replace the "Alt" key functionality to highlight spilled loot (and nearby doors/portals): simply use Option/Alt + Command keys simultaneously (they're of course right next to each other...).

Works the same for BD, which I'm playing now.

To the OP: if by chance you have problems launching the game, it might be b/c you do what I did for far too long: clicked on the icon in the Applications folder. Lots of times, that came up w/ a black screen which needed a deluxe force quit (I forget the 3 keys you hold down for 3 seconds) to get out of. Anyway, just launch the game from the Launchpad part of the dock and you should have no troubles at all.

That's ace, thank you. I'll try it this afternoon.

…update…. I have attempted to locate keylist.txt but still having no success (I'll persevere though!). It just doesn't seem to be in any of the sub directories when I explore package contents of the app. I have no "problem" with the game as such, no launch issues, I can assign standard function keys to skills. It's just darn awkward and I'd prefer to re-assign to a numeric (say) key.
Thanks for the responses, If I'm just being dumb please let me know!

…update2… found it! All sorted thanks again all.
