I picked up this game Friday because I knew it would be raining all day Sat. I am blown way, great game. My son is twelve and I was thinking that I coul buy him a copy and we could play co-op. Will he be able to jump on one of my two created characters or do we have to start a new game.

Co-op is drop-in / drop-out, so he would take over one of your main characters. Hit Esc to bring up the menu, and there is an Assign Characters option which will allow you to specify which character, and companion or henchman, each of you control.
Starting a new game, you would each be able to customize a character if he joined in character creation.

Local (dynamic) split screen co-op is also supported, when playing with 2 controllers.
