I've downloaded the divine divinity demo and I'm thinking of purchasing divinity on gog. Will I be able to continue from my save file on the demo or will I have to restart when I install the full game?

I'm not sure if this will work, but I've had this working in other games in the past. Just go for it. At $5.99 you can't fail, and you'll end up with a great game (even though I haven't left the village yet, I love it already).
Let us know the answer :)
You would have to find the save files for the demo and move them to [your drive letter]:\Program Files\GOG.com\Divine Divinity\savegames\[your character name folder]
Every game developer is different so there is no set answer concerning moving demo save files to a full game install. Some will work . . . some won't, you will have to try it for yourself. I stopped playing demos several years ago when they started using DRM so I'm a little behind the curve. ( I do not know if DD has DRM in their demo, none in the GOG game of course)
If you like DD, you might want to download the full GOG version. It's a steal at this price and installing it would eliminate the possibility of the demo saves not working before you have gotten too far.
