I don't remember having this trouble the last time I played, but I simply CANNOT beat these skeletal guardians, even with Gregor Brock helping. The only way possible I can see would be to literally have about 100 healing potions and just keep pressing the button because in like two hits I'm dead.

I could've sworn I did the catacombs first last time I played. Is that not right??? Do you have to go elsewhere for awhile to build up levels before trying the catacombs at the beginning of the game??? Like I said, it sure seems like I remember finishing the catacombs first last time I played.

This time I am playing as a survivor though whereas I played as a warrior last time. Could that be it???

You can complete the catacombs without leaving Aleroth to level up.

A survivor is more challenging than a warrior to play. With my first character I played a warrior, and these opponents were tough, but only needed a couple tries to find the best approach. With a survivor archer on hard difficulty, I had much more trouble, and decided to level up a bit outside (then I got distracted and never did get back to that character).

Well, FWIW, I only have it on Medium difficulty. And I just tried again. And man, I mean,I don't even GET CLOSE to killing ONE of them before I die. And there are many of these things in there.

I mean, not even CLOSE. Not even half the red bar being gone was the best I've done so far, and that was taking potions as soon as my bar got below half, until I ran out of potions.

I dunno, I was reading some of those links, and there really isn't any "answer" it just seems to be "Yeah, the catacombs are tough" Maybe they aren't meant to be the first thing you do???

Could you tell me what "kite" is?? I saw in one of the threads discussing this issue that the guy said the only way he could be the skeleton warriors was to kite a lot. I don't have a clue what that means, could you maybe help??
kite = hit and run tactics (ie you run and they follow, kind of like flying a kite, except you keep stopping to fire off arrows or magic)

There were particular skeleton guardian bosses I had trouble with using my survivor (where you need to open 4 tombs). Before then I don't recall too many problems killing opponents (that was awhile ago, though).

Are you checking back with George periodically to see if he has better equipment, etc?

Well, I wasn't, because as soon as I go above ground, the zombie helper dies. I can't even imagine beating them without him.

LOL, I did, just now beat my first one. And that's how I did it. I would run away and fire arrows, and run and fire arrows (I have no attack magic), and with the zombie putting a lot of hurt on him, I killed him. But, my only bow I'm carrying broke.

So now, I have no clue what to do. Go back up, sell stuff and get better equipement, meaning when I return I'm on my own, or just keep trying with whatever I've got and the zombies help.

Neither seems like much hope to me. LOL

I did a unique save game right after that battle, and went above ground to sell stuff. And the zombie died. But I did get a little better equipment, AND I learned how to do the restoration spell, so that might help. I hadn't talked to Gemoe after finishing the saving the soldiers quest and when I talked to him just now he taught me the restoration spell.

Gonna give this one a go, and if it looks impossible, I'll load up that other save see how it looks trying with no bow but still having the zombie.

THANK YOU very much for all of your help and patience. For some reason, I just don't recall the game being this difficult the last time I played until the very last boss (which I never did beat. I must've tried for two or three weeks IIRC back in the early to mid 2000's when I played this the first time.

EDIT: I'm marking this "solved" even though I have no "solution" because I guess there isn't really any "solution" to this, and because of all of your help I wanted to give you the rep points. Hope that's ok.

Well, you're not going to believe this, but I now am going through them like knife through butter LOL!!

I bought a new and better bow, and am doing the "kite" thing, and I've just killed two more without taking ANY damage.

Boy, how can a game go from impossible to piece of cake that fast!!??!!

Anyway, looks like I'm good to now without that Gregor Brock zombie. Thanks again.
A poor weapon for the level / region can make the game needlessly difficult. Equipment upgrades or trying a different area first are usually all that is needed if you run into problems.

With a level of Repair you can repair any equipment that breaks without having to head back to town. You can keep an eye out for jewellery with that bonus, as well (unless you prefer paying merchants to repair, or that skill doesn't fit your character playstyle).
