Just started this game and I cannot pick up objects for some reason. (Specifically the book and key in the goblin fighting area. The key sparkles and the book just sits there.) Tried pressing E, both mouse buttons, random keys. Nothing. Pretty game breaking if I can't fix this.

I looked on the web and noted a few others with this problem but no solution.

Anyone here have any ideas?

Are you standing close enough, with the crosshairs in the middle of the screen pointed at the key and book? If so, there should be a triangular arrow symbol over the item and a notice on the bottom right of the screen (as with talking to people, etc), such as:

Key
Press (Right mouse button) to pick up


In the gameplay options there is a setting to show the crosshairs or not, though they are on by default (they just don't stand out, so can be easily missed if you are not looking for them).

It works! I was standing right on top of the objects, to the side of the objects, in front of the objects and what have you. However, I had to stand just in the right place and put the hard to see little cross hairs on the object. And woot! Loot!

I feel a bit dense, but you sir win my kudos.
