Does anyone have a link or know where I can find the 1.004a patch or version of the game? I'm tired of the skills not working and I really don't care about the resolution fix in 1.61a, I just want the skills skills working correctly and mainly the crossbow and bow skills actually working.
im not sure 1.004a is available anymore.

Raze from Larian frequents this forum though and may be able to point you in the right direction however.

I don't know if it is still available somewhere, but the 1.004 release contained a new critical bug (some NPCs could spin in place and be unresponsive, thus preventing progress in some quests), in addition to fixing True Shot and the damage portion of Crossbow Expertise.

Is there a way to manually fix the skills? Or is the code impossible to access?

Not that I know of.
Sorry for necromancing but I would love to see this patch too.
Like GuardicGaiden, I don't care much about the high res and still playing the original version. I'm hoping that with some merging I can get the skill fix with the disk version, though I'm not sure if it was possible.
So I ask again hoping that some one would have that version (or even just the new file of it). Some one please help.

+1. I also have some interest.
This one is supposed to fix the crossbow expertise, and it's still available to download:

Thank you, but unfortunately, this version was "bugged", too (as you can see in the last post of that topic).
I have check it myself and files in dat and global folder are older than my 1.34 a files, weapon expertise in game also not show percentage. If I was wrong, please correct me.
I believe that only 1.004 was the "true remastered" version with all bug fixes from disk version plus new fixes.
Anyway, thankyou.

Well, 1.004 was also bugged, so it depends what you prefer (fixing archery at the price of other bugs).

From the unofficial patch 1.005 you can use only the executable (and osiris.dll), it appears to be working over the gog version (played a little) but I don't know if it will break something else later.

In terms of know issues, there is very little difference between the 1.005 and 1.006 versions; Larian had to re-do the higher resolution and widescreen support due to a problem with the updated source code accidentally not being included in the working backup they had, and other backups not being readable. IIRC scorpion traps were nerfed in 1.005 and back to overpowered in 1.006, there were a couple of other very minor differences.
The only significant (IMO) exception is that there was a music fix for the 1.006 release of the game, which will not work with the 1.005 version.

It would be interesting to play around with some of the updated files from the original 1.004 download release of the game, but there was also a critical game breaking bug in that version (the screwup with reverting some of the source code happened when fixing that bug), so there might not be an easy way 'patch' the lost changes back into the current release.
But true shot and crossbow works as intended or not in 1.005 ? My impression was that it works in 1.005 but not in 1.006.

Yep, I know that there are critical bugs in 1.004, but like Raze said, 1.004 was released before things screwed, that why I want to test my luck with it.
Ah I don't know that Scorpion trap was nerfed in 1.005, but I think if 'true shot' and crossbow worked in 1.005 then it should also work in 1.006, I can't test though.

True Shot and the damage portion of Crossbow Expertise are broken in 1.005 (and 1.006). The weapon expertise skills also reverted to the percentage and fixed amount damage bonuses of the disk version, rather than all of the damage bonuses being percentages, like in 1.004.

Though nothing new have been found about the old 1.004 version, I have do some research with 1.0034 and found something:
Divine Divinity\Run\dat\props.000 seem to contain the stat of skill and can be edit with hex editor and some are quite easy. (I can change level of scorpion to 10, haven't check its actual result though)
Most of these figures are selfdefine, other can be understand by searching in Divine Divinity\Run\localizations\english\skills.txt
I also think that crossbow expertise and True Shot does not work because some of their stat were not 'loaded' in the div.exe. BTW, some were 'loaded', I see Recuperation Time of Xbow in Div.exe but don't know if it work, So I'm not sure about this.
Version 1.33 div.exe does not seem to be as readable as 1.34 though.
Well, this is just a small update with many unsure things (lol) to keep that topic alive.

@ Raze: could you do me a favor by asking Larian's staff and forum member about this (at the end of your holiday, ofcourse).
