Or maybe 1.1 and 1.2? Instead you give it cryptic terms like bbe2afa0 and 5bad0c96...

LOL yeah I think they did it to be "different" and "enigmatic". Unfortunately game versions aren't a good place to express one's creativity, since knowing what version one has, and whether it's the latest, is kind of important.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's a hash from their version control system or build system, but it also wouldn't surprise me to find out they used a random number generator to roll a new bunch of hex numbers for every release.
