whodares2: I don't believe you need to rescue the wizard to complete the mission. I believe that if you do you gain an extra hero unit. I say this because I have completed missions without gaining the extra allies before. That said, there are some missions where it is vital to do so, like nearer the end of the campaign, in one mission where elves need reinforcements.
Just to be sure I know what mission your referring to it is something like mission 3?
