I've recently reinstalled Diablo and have been trying out the various mods.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned DevilutionX. To me, this is the perfect mod.

But there is far less information on it... it doesn't seem to be as well-known but it is EXACTLY what I was after in a mod - the core mechanics and gameplay of the original DIablo with the quality-of-life improvements, such as better resolution, town running, automatic belt refills, ground item display, and enemy health bar.

The experience running DevilutionX has been AMAZING. Seriously the best thing to come for the Diablo game (IMO).

I tried out Belzebub, Tchernobog, and The Hell 2 but they all had some weird things going on.

Belzebub & Tchernobog seemed alright... all up until you get that one crazy monster who is almost impossible to kill. The difficulty spike on various single monsters is just insane and totally takes away from the playability and enjoyment of the game. Which is a shame because other than that it seemed ok... but quests seemed bugged too. It did have some nice things like a shared stash, but it also had a lot of "new" things the devs decided to add which, you might like, or you might dislike. Personally, the difficulty spikes were the killer for me.

The Hell 2 was really interesting at the start because of so many features... but then those features just really get in the way of the game. I appreciate the commitment and love for the game from the developer, but there is just WAY TOO MUCH going on. There are like over 20 classes or something, you get "perks" and shit with 1000 options. It was all just way over the top. And then the gold you get is so minimal. It seems like a great mod if you have played Diablo for 1 million hours and want to try a whole bunch of random shit and dramatically increase the difficulty level. It's like a Hardcore version of Diablo for those bored of the original game wanting to mix up gameplay a bit.

Ultimately, DevilutionX was just perfect. It's the original game but purely with the quality of life features you would expect from a modern version of it. The ONLY extra feature I would love to see is a shared stash tab so you can share gear between characters. Whoever the dev is for this, thank you, it's great.

"Bugged quests" - sounds like you've tried Tchernobog which explicitly says it doesn't have quests, if you wanted to have quests you should play Belzebub, (imo it does a fantastic and unrivaled job in readding things that had only fragments in original data - for example creating whole quests with their own levels and special monsters where for example there was only a npc line from the original - everyone should play it once to experience that :) )

Yeh Tchernobog had the bugged quests.

I tried Belzebub too but like I said, the difficulty spikes were just killers. All would be fine, but then out of the blue some random monster would be impossible to kill or do insane damage or both. It just really messed with gameplay and took away from the whole experience. If those random bosses or difficulty spikes were removed I think it would have more potential.

In saying that, the above mods are in essence not really anything like the original Diablo. They are true "mods" of the original.

Hence my preference for DevilutionX. It's the original and authentic Diablo experience but with the QOL features we all need (except shared stash... that would just make it perfect!).

oh... my... god!

I had no idea Gillian had that! THIS IS AWESOME! Thanks so much!! Oh man all those good pieces of gear I was selling because I wouldn't use them on my char... haha. Oh this is the best thing since sliced bread.

Seriously, THE best mod for Diablo 1! Thank you!
not surprised at all that theres a (east of germany) russian on here shilling for beezlepoop mod
its quite literally the worst d1 mod ever created
as soon as youre done with normal you're going to hit floor 13 and every single mob is immune to all the cheeses in the game. on top of firing 6 poison projectiles onto you every other second so you can never stand still(game REQUIRED you to melee this mobs down whom also have 12k+ health with infinite regen and lifesteal and haste so you can never stand still) on top of having their thorns from each one element that they get, lightning being the most fun :) since the lightning spawns underneath them and does ""aoe"" which you stand in while its under them, and then once more under you for mutliple hits per ingame tick so youll be taking approximately your entire life pool a second while dealing almost 0.1 damage per swing with your dogshit sword that you cant upgrade because all the loot in the game is shit and is located on hell difficulty, which youd need to be some sort of chinese rice farmer to reach because there's no fucking way an actual HUMAN being installed this mod for DIABLO ONE
and thought yo
yo
unkillable enemies? yo
yo
this is.. like .... ...... so fucking sick
unplayable garbage
you can tell the devs never played it once

Are you implying that anyone east of Germany are Russians, and by extension that people from Sweden are really just Russians?
