Hello all and thank you in advance for your help.

I am trying to play the browser port version of Diablo, because I am working with a Mac. I bought the digital version of Diablo on the GOG site, and I have downloaded the exe file which is useless.

When I try to play the browser version, it wants me to upload a MPQ file, and I have little or no idea what that means or how to do it.

I would appreciate any assistance anyone can provide that would help me get my Diablo on. I'm getting the shakes here.

Thank you,

The file in question is called DIABDAT.MPQ, and is present in Diablo's main folder after installing the game. Unfortunately, the Windows game installer isn't compatible with a Mac, so you must either use software allowing emulation of other systems (like Wine) or use a PC to install the game. After that, you can upload the file to a browser port and it should work.
If you want to play on an unsupported platform, such as 64-bit-only OS X, you may be better served using a native port, such as DevilutionX. I see in their most recent release (< https://github.com/diasurgical/devilutionX/releases/tag/1.1.0 >) that they provide a dmg for OS X.
I second the devilutionX suggestion, it is by far the best way to play Diablo nowadays ;)
Thank you for the suggestions guys! Like I said, I'm not a computer guy, so please excuse my incompetence. What do I do after I download the DevilutionX? And what do I do with the diablo exe file from GOG? I'm still having issues, and I sincerely apologize and greatly appreciate the help!

All devilutionX should require is dropping diabdat.mpq in its folder or it's data folder
(From DevilutionX's readme - macOS - ~/Library/Application Support/diasurgical/devilution)

To get diabdat.mpq, you have to install diablo using gog's exe, then diabdat.mpq should be in the installed folder (Dunno if it works on macs as I'm a windows guy : P )

Which diablo exe do you mean? There is Diablo.exe, the v1.09 executable (size 757760 bytes) that is the game you would play. There is probably also an .exe installer you downloaded from GOG, which you would use to install the game's files (the executable, and all its data files, including the important DIABDAT.MPQ). If you can't run Windows executables at all, which seems likely, then getting the game's data installed will be a bit of trouble for you. I could guess at how to do that, but it would be just guesswork. I vaguely recall discussion of a tool for unpacking GOG's installer data files without the need to run the executable, but I don't remember its name. Innoextract, maybe?

innoextract is the tool I use on Linux to get game data from GOG installers, including the required diabdat.mpq file from GOG Diablo installer setup_diablo_1.09_hellfire_v2_(30038).exe.

I have no experience with Mac OS, but I see there are packages for it listed on innoextract website.
Thank you everyone for the help! I was able to extract the DIABDAT.MPQ file using a windows computer and it works now. Much appreciated everyone.
