As in topic. Has anybody tried running middle earth mod with this release? With hi-res version?

"Middle Earth" mod work only with "Diablo v.1.07". "Diablo" GOG use patch v.1.09.

You can always use Equine mod manager for Diablo, it allows for a downgrade of the game to the desired version. I haven't tested this feature though.
