Was wondering if anyone can confirm if multiplayer works in the Descent games, either other local LANs or over the 'Net in general?

Yes, I'm wondering, too. Cause I've always wanted to play online..but..when I was 6 I couldn't possibly comprehend how.
Because there's really no other game like descent, there's still a respectable multiplayer scene. The Descent BB http://www.descentbb.com/ has been the community hub for as long as I can remember.
This thread has great current info about descent 3 multiplayer. My personal favorite app for descent chat/map downloading/server browsing is vortex
I'm not sure if there's many active players for descent 1&2 these days. That's not to say that we couldn't start a group for some oldschool descenting. :) DXX-Rebirth has tcp/ip multiplayer built in along with the nice opengl graphics.
If there was one feature that I'd like to see on GoG.com it would be some sort of chatroom or forum for organizing multiplayer rounds of classics like descent 2.

That would be ridiculously sweet.
I've seen Hamachi be really slow on some computers before. I'm not hopeful about that.
But Descent is unbelievably perfect as an online game.
I can't log in for some reaosn, but I emailed the ppl about it. I wanted to buy descent today and I would LOVE to be part of a multiplayer group. I'm 26 now and got descent 1 when I was about 10 or 12 I think (too long ago).
God I would love to play it multiplayer.
Forboding
I had descent when I was 9 so the only thing that popped in my mind when i saw multiplayer was local play. I could never get the whole online play. That would be awesome if we had tournaments monthly in here in descent 2+3. did descent 1 have multiplayer? I always had the descent 1 that came in the interplay package not the actual CD
Yes, you could emulate a LAN over the internet with Descent 1. I played Descent 1 a lot with a friend of mine. And it was really great fun, coop or against each other. Just type in your buddy's IP address. This is how people played a lot of old games on the internet and on those old bulletin board systems that everybody used before even knowing what the internet was had become common.
ah ok tnks. I think D2 would be better since its practically D1 with more weapons and the after burner
D2X-XL supports multiplayer via UDP/IP (meaning you won't need an additional tool like e.g. KALI). It even has a tracker service.
