I just purchased Descent 3 on gog.com, and the game installed just fine. When I start it up, the game goes through the intro scenes as well as the intro movie with no hitches. But when it gets to the main menu, the background is there, but the options are a mis-mash of pixels and I can't select anything, thus can't play the game.

Btw, I'm using a really old system, with Windows XP home, a 2 Ghz AMD Sempron, a Gb of RAM, and an integrated Geforce 4 MX GPU. I figured the system is old, but the game is even older, but I'm not sure where the problem lies. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
In the launcher, click SETUP and change the Video from Direct X to OpenGL or vice versa.
Yeah, I tried that before, I should have mentioned. OpenGL actually doesn't load the main menu background at all; it goes through the red loading line at the bottom, then the line flashes, screen is black, and it locks up. Direct3D gives the problem mentioned previously. Direct X doesn't come up as a separate option in the Video menu.

Thank you for the quick response, though.
Since you are using an intergrated video, that could be the issue. make sure your dreivers are updated
