Game loads and plays fine, except there is absolutely no sound. DF1 runs fine with sound. Any ideas?

I'd been struggling with this for about 4 months and I can't really tell what fixed it for me but, likely it was one of these two things.
1. If you click the settings icon (next to the play button) on the Delta Force 2 screen in the GOG launcher there's a 'Manage Installation -> Show Folder' option. Open that and there's a dsound.dll in that directory. Rename it to something like OLDdsound.dll
2. Google the phrase "DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) " and download it from the official Microsoft site and install it.
