So, I just played through this game (again), only to realize that there are achievements now! Awesome.
I challenge myself to do Hero Mode++ yesterday and today, and I just finish it. Last level, one star needed, no problem, open and shut. I get all the corresponding achievements upon hitting Play+ (winner+, hero mode+, hero mode++).

Since I'm an achievement / completionist whore, I then buy generic recruits so I can go for the 201 star achievements. All the hero mode achievements disappeared! They're listed at 0% for my first save bank. Anyone else run into this? Slightly miffed at the moment, of course, but also pretty glad games like Super Mario Whatever didn't have achievements what with their 10000 stars per game :P

The way it calculates the achievement is pretty naive-- if you have no recruits and are currently at the right level of progress, it records it for you. It recalculates every time you hit the overworld. I keep meaning to fix it in a patch but I also keep forgetting and/or having more pressing issues to attend to.

The only way to "fix" it right now is to export your save file, open it up in a text editor and delete the entries for the generic characters, then import it back in, and that save will always have the achievement, and then use a copy of it to complete the rest of the game.

I... was definitely not expecting a direct reply from the developer, that's for sure! Thank you for taking the time to explain both the cause and the workaround.
Thanks for the bug report :) If I ever have the time I'll try to fix this one fine day.
