Warning: I am talking about the original 360 version as I have yet had a chance to play the PC version since my Windows desktop is put away, *Linux user, but I do own Director's cut on here and Steam*
My favorite game of all time is Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past with others like Castlevania Symphony of the Night runners up. That game was the first one that got me to become a hardcore gamer, played it and beat every square inch of it collecting every item. For the longest time while I had my SNES I beat it at least once a year every year, beat the GBA one a few times but wasn't the same.........what they doing 'fixing' that Ice Palace bug that made you skip around dungeons? And yes I LOVE Link Between Worlds. But this isn't about that game. Its about probably the closest thing to art games have gotten IMHO mainly because it takes after just about every David Lynch film.
The characters are magical, voice acting is pitch perfect, story is superb. The dialogue is not only the best I heard in any game but in most movies. The setup and style is of course ripping off Twin Peaks and shamelessly at that, in fact this was going to be a PS2 game but got pulled because it was TOO much like the show and was afraid of lawsuits from CBS.
But this game is also one of the most broken 'polished' games I've seen. How? Controls suck, fighting areas feel unnecessary its more of an interactive movie game besides that *developer SWERY said he was forced to do this because americans wanted violent fighting.......this was before Heavy Rain*. The graphics look poor by PS2 standards but damn........its beautifully broken. This may be my new favorite game and I must own every version of it. I won't ruin the story since it is different enough from Twin Peaks to pack a punch or two.
Just wish we could skip the dumb shooting levels which are tedious and unimaginative.
