I bought this game, installed it and tried running it and the laucher pops up but when i click play the launcher disappears and then nothing happens. Any ideas?
Try:
- Applying the patch,
- Applying DPFix (and make sure joystick support is disabled in DPFix configuration),
- Disabling multiple cores,
- 98/XP compatibility mode.

Did you try to mess with cores?
If it doesn't work - I'd suggest trying to contact GOG support - those people can do real magic :)

i did not change anything related to cores in any way. I will fiddle around an then contact gog. Thanks for giving input
I've installed the game and am having the same problem. The DP Launcher window comes up, then I click Play and nothing happens.

I've applied the patch, installed DPFix (apparently the joystick support thing is now removed in the new version of the fix), and tried Windows XP and 98 compatibility modes.... None of these made any difference.

How do I disable multiple cores? (for this application only)

TheGiantDonut: How do I disable multiple cores? (for this application only)
I disabled them in bios for the time of playing.
But that's rather solution to slowdowns than to game not launching.

OK, thanks for letting me know. Sounds like it won't help with my problem.

Is there a log file stored anywhere, that might show some clues about what happens when I try to launch the game? It's seems like it's going to be hard to diagnose the problem without any error messages...

Nothing that I know of.
But if you have some time, you can check this forum:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/247660/discussions/
Those guys found some pretty useful workarounds. Plus, of course, there is always helpful GOG support. If they can't crack it, no one can.
Thanks Novotnus. I've read through some of the relevant threads on the Steam forum, but didn't see anything that I haven't already tried.

I've contacted GOG support to ask for assistance.
Just a quick reply to say that I contacted GOG support last week and followed their advice, and now the game is launching properly and running well. Very good support!

I think the actions I had to take were specific to my system, so I won't post the details here - but in summary, it involved:

- reinstalling the game as an administrator
- installing some DirectX and graphics card (nvidia) updates
- launching the game as administrator

So I don't know if was just one, some or all of these actions that enabled my PC to run the game.

I advise anyone who has the same problem as me to contact GOG support.
I could not get the game to launch either on my win xp (32 Bit) system. After the patch I could watch the credits and then the game crashed. After getting it to work on win7 I figured out what the problem was: after the credits the first movie scene would begin and this is the problem. The game depends on a proper installation of windows media player 11 or at least windows media 11 runtime otherwise it could not play some or all of the movies (wmv format) and crashes. I reinstalled my wmp and now thge game works without a problem.

BTW: The credits at the beginning only appear if you apply the latest patch- If you don't apply the patch the game starts in a blink.

Same for me. This game is CRAP. Can't believe GOG allowed it and can't believe they're making it so difficult to get a refund, when all they do is praise their "30 day" guarantee. Anyway, the game DOES NOT work. It's my 41st game from GOG and it's the FIRST game that is unplayable.

Did you try to reinstall windows media player and it runtime libraries? What exavtly happens and on which OS do you try to run the game? After reinstalling wmp and the runtime libraries the game runs without any problems for me. Try to get the run the videos manually. In my case a few of them (the intro too) did not start and THAT was my problem. Before I managed this I wrote an e-mail to support@risingstargames.com and got a reply in a few days - this could help you too. If nothing helps I am sure GOG support will try to help you too. Don't give up - many have problems with this game but the most issues I read of were fixable.

I just reinstalled windows and the game didn't launch. DirectX update fixed it, specifically this: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113 (see section "Install DirectX End-User Runtime if your application or game requires an earlier version of DirectX")
