For people new to the game, this approach might give you a boost when starting out. This isn't intended for players who have dozens of hours of Deadlock 1 experience, but for someone who wants a few tips in getting a feel for the basic game play. Here's 5 bits of advice for new players of Deadlock 1:
1) Pick Human race to make money easier.
2) In Deadlock, attackers enter your colony from the lower right. Reserve the diagonal line of squares on the lower right for laser defenses.
3) Your first building should be a farm that provides food. Try and locate your 2x2 farm on blank squares or a little wheat symbol (food bonus).
4) Second building is a laser defense, which should be near the bottom half of the lower right. Together, that gives you food production and some defense against early attacks.
5) Early on it's good to pursue both research (university) and metal production (surface mine).
