I was gettting a blue-screen error every three or four in-game hyperspace jumps and, more infrequently, when leaving a space station. I checked around, and I tried every fix I could find.
The only one that made any difference was going back to the 175.19 Nvidia driver. Apparently, something in the driver changed in subsequent versions that breaks DSO on some Nvidia hardware. Going back to the older driver solved my issue.
YMMV

AFAIK post 175.19 drivers added PhysX support to Nvidia cards, but only the more recent ones. This apparantly breaks lots of games. I bought Mass Effect recently and the 180.48 drivers make the game crash after an hour or so.
Rolling back drivers isn't always the answer though. Some people have gotten 60% frame rate increases with Far Cry 2 for example when upgrading to 180.48
