Got Darkstar one on the weekend specials and downloaded it OK
When I ran the installation it all seemed to go well but when I try to run the game I get 2 windows that pop into view to tell me there has been an "Uncaught Exception in LoadMipMap" and "uncaught exception in LoadImage_Aim". This happene a second time before there is a long pause and a screen comes up from Ascaron Reportining an "Exemption_Access_Violation".
When I fill this in and try to send it back to them that programme reports that it is not working and closes down. Windows has not yet reported a solution for the problem.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling from my download but same problem.
any help? or should I just retry the download after removing my faulty one?

Try installing the game in a folder other than Program Files, for example, C:\Games or something like that.
Try running the game with Administrator rights.
Also, update your video/audio drivers just in case.

I have the same problem. My copy is installed under C:\games\Darkstar one and I've tried changing the compatibility settings but the same error keeps happening.
I have also tried suggestions on the internet to replace the IPHLPAPI.DLL file with the one in c:\windows\system32 but to no avail.
I am running Windows 7, nVidia GTS 250, AMD Phenom II, 2GB DDR3.
EDIT: Solved. http://www.gog.com/en/forum/darkstar_one/error_running_game_amp_039_uncaught_exception_in_loadmipmap_amp_039
