Since I learned the hard way to plan every step and overthink how good your party members work together is why I still do apprentice missions :D and another reason: I want to upgrade the whole town to the maximum or in other words to the minimum costs for my mercenaries. So I still think, I am slow :D ...
Another reason for my carefull behaviour is that I think, the witch at the beinning is one very hard boss, if you're not used to the game yet. I retreated 3 or 4 times facing her. Then I got scared of boss fights, trained a while and then did the necromancer apprentice, the siren and the prophet in a wink.
I also changed my team composition. Before I only had melees who could attack the first two rows. Now with the use of resting abilities, my characters got buffs in a way that I defeated the witch within two or three rounds. Maybe I got lucky, because I had 3 critical hits in 4 attacks, but it was really satisfying to finally succeed :)
