I've been playing Crysis since it was released. It's one of my favorite games. For as long as I can remember this bug has existed. The game will crash to the desktop with the following error:

http://i.imgur.com/JiC9JkL.png

Characteristics:

- I'm pretty sure the root cause is some kind of cumulative "savegame rot" from making repeated saves. I don't think I've ever seen this crash after starting a level from the beginning.

- It's semi-predictable, in that some savegames have a higher chance of resulting in the crash than others.

- It's unpredictable in that loading one of those saves will not always result in a crash, and if it does, it might not occur within the same timeframe.

- The crash usually happens after some form of activity. For example, getting in a vehicle, or moving through a certain area. However, if I was to start the level from the beginning and get in the same vehicle or walk to the same area, the crash wouldn't happen.

- If it happens once, then reloading the same save and repeating the same sequence of actions will almost always result in the same crash. This part is highly predictable. Rebooting the PC will break this cycle, so I suspect this particular aspect of the issue has something to do with the information that causes the crash getting cached somewhere (and rebooting flushes it).

It's got nothing to do with faulty hardware. I must have happened across 6 different PCs now. It's not "bad media" either, because I have two retail versions of the game, and now the GOG version, and it's there in all three.

In my Googling, I've found surprisingly little talk about this issue - maybe because the average player doesn't save and load as much as I do.

Does anyone know a fix?

I'd been meaning to post about this.

I had several of that crash in the quarry level with the mountain starting to collapse.

It'd happen in exactly the same place like i was walking over a tripwire that caused it. I guessed that it was a radio sound effect triggering or something similar.

I had to disable my sound card in my device manager, walk past the place it happened, save the game again, exit and re-enable my sound card and then load the save game again.

What level of the game is it happening to you on at the moment?

If anyone knows a proper fix i'd apreciate it too.

The two most recent ones:

A save half way through Relic, where if I turn around and run back towards the beginning of the map it will have a very high chance of crashing. Sometimes it doesn't, but if it happens once, it's guaranteed to happen every single time I reload and repeat the steps until the system is restarted.

A save I made right back at the beginning tunnel of Onslaught after clearing the entire map. I have a tank there, and if I enter the tank the crash will happen a second or two after I start rolling. Again, it is possible to load this save and not have the crash, but if it happens once, it will happen every single time without fail until the system is restarted.

EDIT: I think I have one that's 100% certain to cause the crash (even after a system restart). Here is the sample save:

https://www.mediafire.com/?jv8d3nyyq8dbk1c

If I load that save, turn around, run up the road to the big truck and get in, the game will crash the moment I start moving the truck.

Vehicles do seem to be a risk factor for this crash.

this is an exact description of what i have been getting if i go to certain areas i have a high chance of it randomly crashing. sometimes on some saves it will happen within 2-5 mins of me loading it and in others i might be able to play for 10 mins before it crashes and other saves it does not crash at all. for me it just freezes and then about 2 secs later the sound stops and when i exit using task manager i get a stopped working error. also one time i was in a certain area where it crashes a lot and my game was paused and it crashed so i dont think its to do with my specs because i meet the recommended. if you have found a solution pls reply.

Hi, thankyou for your reply but the URL you posted has nothing to do with Crysis?
