Hi again. After getting past the Atrium bug, I was playing fine, then hit the known bug where the servant did not show up to let me out of the gate to go to lighthouse and Pirates' Cove. As I had never hit that bug before, I did not have a SAVE from before Standing Stones to reload, which is apparently the fix. So I used the "Flight" cheat to go over the wall and continue. I was then able to play fine up through the Pirate's cove. I snagged the Skull spell and exited back to the Manor.

At the point that I was inside the Manor in the Foyer, it was getting late, so I did a SAVE.

When I booted my computer today, Windows applied a whole lot of Updates.

Now, when I go to play undying, it simply won't launch. I tried the desktop icon, with no luck, so then tried the .exe file installed on my computer and that did not help. I finally ran the "Autorun" file from the CD and it launched the screen that has "install"/""uninstall"/"Play" etc, and tried the "Play". No luck again. I don't get any error messages or anything strange. It just simply does nothing.

I looked at all the launching bugs mentioned on this and Standing Stones websites, but can't find anything exactly the same. One issue has error requesting a CD be put in the drive, but the fix is to change drive letters from H to D. My computer already uses "D" for the drive that Undying CD is in.

Another bug that sounds similar... at least at the same point I am in (inside Manor before fight with Ambrose) has an error message I don't receive. However the fix appears to be to copy the SAVE files and then reinstall, and recopy SAVE files to pick up where you left off.

I figured this was worth the effort, since I am getting nowhere otherwise. However when I go out to EA Games\Clive Barker's Undying\Save ... there are no files at all there. I have looked around and can't find anything that looks like SAVE files.

Does anyone know where the SAVE files are kept? or did the Windows Update (or some Undying Bug) destroy the SAVE files that should be in the "save" folder?

It was so difficult and time-consuming getting through this far... especially getting past the "killed off in Atrium" bug, fighting the tons of skeletons and 'Lizbeth is incredibly difficult to beat. If I can't fix this and retrieve my SAVEs I may just give up on the game for now. I don't want to go through all that trouble again and hit this bug all over.

Its a shame, because this is a great game and its very frustrating to put this much time into a game and give up on it.

I am running this on a Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790 Windows 7 (Professional) 64 Bit.

Thanks!

UPDATE: I tried running/launching using compatibility mode for XP and then for Win98, but neither worked at all. No errors. Just it refuses to launch/run at all.

I don't understand this at all. Undying worked fine up until I was ready to fight the second BOSS (Ambrose?) . Windows did an update that morning and when I went to play again, Undying refused to launch.

I gave up on it after trying everything I could think of and went back to playing THIEF.

After completing THIEF I went back to uninstall and reinstall Undying. But it STILL won't launch.

I have no idea what to try or why it worked before but not now.

Perhaps the game still contains Securom parts. One of the latest Windows Updates removed support for Securom. Have you tried starting secdrv.sys manually?

I have this exact same problem! I didn't know it was caused by a specific update, I just know that I last played the game in 2010, and it ran flawlessly, but when I run it now, on the same computer, absolutely nothing happens, not even an error message. What gives? :u

[Disclaimer: I am running a “sold out software” cd version of the game I bought a long time ago. Since my original cd got all scratched up.]

This exactly what it was, after doing some research. Basically after reading this article:

http://www.howtogeek.com/230773/how-to-play-pc-games-that-require-safedisc-or-securom-drm-on-windows-10-8.1-8-7-and-vista/

Which also took me here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3086255

So what you have to do is temporarily re-enable it.

1. By finding your command prompt for windows and running it as administrator.

2. Then type the following:

sc config secdrv start= demand

Then hit enter.

3. Once that is finshed type this in next:

sc start secdrv

Then hit enter.

4. You should be able to play the game now if your running Windows Vista, 7, and 8. If you running Windows 10 your out of luck. Since Microsoft does not have this option for anyone who is running this particular version of their OS.

5. If you want to feel more secure after playing the game. In the command prompt (make sure your still running it as administrator) type this in:

sc stop secdrv

Then hit enter. It will then disable the service again. However if you want to run it again all you have to do is go back to step 3.

Anyway I hope this helps anyone who is currently unable to play this game at all. Hopefully GoG can come up with better solution in the future when it comes to games like these. Since this one of my favorite games to play close to Halloween. If it does get fixed by them then I would not mind shelling out a few bucks to get the GoG version of the game.
