Yup, that's pretty much my problem. It starts right at the beginning cutscene: The sound plays normal, but the individual shots continue looooooooooong after the monologue files have ended. What one may not notice during the first few seconds - due to the fact that the protagonist is basically just standing around - becomes apparent when skipping to the actual game: The speed is way too slow.

My hardware is: 2.4 DualCore processor, 3 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4800 series.

So, yeah, if someone could provide a solution, that would be awesome! I was really happy to see it on GOG.com, so I'd love to relive this game without any hiccups.

This question / problem has been solved by Nirthimage
You could try starting the game in safe mode (the installer creates a "safe mode"-shortcut in the "GOG.com\Clive Barker's Undying" folder in your start menu) and choosing a different renderer than glide to make sure it has nothing to do with the glide wrapper.

If it's working in Direct3D and you want to use glide, you can try fiddling with the nglide options. There's a file called "nglide_config.exe" in the "system" subfolder of your undying directory.
Thanks, that removed the slo-mo problem. Unfortunately, I now have a new problem: When the intro blends to the flashback during the Great War, several monologue files play at once!
I recommend nGlide, performance and stability seems better but I've not played much and that's with the physical version.
Do you have the sound issues when using Direct3D or glide? In the Audio menu, did you check the 3D Hardware box?
Maybe the Slo-Mo Problems with nglide have something to do with v-sync. You can change the vsync settings using the nglide_config.exe

The sound issues came when I followed your advice to switch to Direct3D, which got rid of the slo-mo problem. Now, I had the same problem with Direct3D with activated 3D sound. Without activated 3D sound, the same! :(

I tried numerous variations but it never fully works.

EDIT: Okay, I'll try that tool.

nGlide finally fixed my problems. Thanks to all of you who helped out :)
Glad we could help! Have fun playing one of the best horrorshooters of all time! :)
using nglide and setting myself to 3dfx improved the slow down issues, but they still do occur randomly. any further tweaks you might suggest?

EDIT: Turns out the vysnc was messing it up. I went into the nglide directory location and used the configurator thing to turn it off. no more slow mo

NEW ISSUE: When I use nglide to force 1680 x 1050 resolution I get an outline that "grows" from the left side of the screen and continues to circle my monitor then change colors from yellow to red. No clue what thats about, but I found it annoying so I changed to a slightly lower res and it stopped, also I can't really notice a visual difference between the two resolutions anyway so its fine

my experience was i installed undying and i messed with the resolution and other settings in the .ini and nglide configurator and even updated nglide and reinstalled the game. i think those things caused the problem because i uninstalled nglide + undying that night. today i installed fresh and didn't touch anything else and found it working properly. i then changed the resolution and graphics detail using the in-game menu only and had no problems after. i do see a few frames being dropped during the red silhouette scene in the prologue cutscene - but i feel this is probably an nglide emulation issue - as would be dropped frames during thunder strikes.

i'm looking forward to this game :)
