I haven't actually played this game much and I'm sure from the rep that people will say this is better, but still I'd like to know your thoughts since both games are made by the same studio.
I eventually picked up Syndicate for cheap for the sole reason was that it was made by Starbreeze. If I were to say which one is better....as a game, Riddick is more solid but they are rather different that it's a moot question.

Though I did enjoy Syndicate, it's really a straight up shooter and it does has some unique elements to it like hacking enemies, environment, the overall game design, isn't developed enough to make it as good as it could have been.

Riddick on the other hand, plays more of the stealth aspect and an impressive melee system that feels like it's got weight and doesn't give you a headache from screen shaking. I'd recommend a "Let's Play" if you feel hesitant on just the blind buy.
Oh god, I totally purged the fact that they did a shooter called Syndicate.
My inner 10 year old self weeps every time when I stumble upon that, "fortunately" it does not seem to have been all that successful.
Syndicate, the original, is a wonderful game. Its sequel was also pretty good. The spiritual successor, made in to an fps, was terrible. I have started, and not gotten terribly far in the Chronicles of Riddick several times, but a good friend of mine has glowing reviews of escape from butcher bay that will always leave me with a positive opinion of the series. I still have the best of intentions of finishing them both one day...
Didn't know there was a Syndicate game in 2012. How is the save game system there? Is it using checkpoints like in Riddick, or is it save anytime anywhere?

Also, according to a few reviews I read, it seems that the game is rather difficult? Is it more difficult than Riddick?
Syndicate looks like a pretty cool shooter. I might pick it up onsale sometime.
