Sorry if this is a nooby and stupid question but I'm having a little trouble trying to figure out how to play this with the 3DFx version. I used the Win 95 patch and it looks great, but I keep hearing the 3DFx version looks better.

Thank you! :3
The 3DFx runs poorly. Why?

You need a fast computer for this (or an old one with a 3Dfx card).

My specs are:

Intel Core i7-920 @ 2.66 GHz
Nvidia GTX 580
6GB RAM

2.66 GHz is too slow, you need something like 3 to 3.4 GHz to have reasenable framerates and even then it will have stutter on some maps.

3 to 3.4GHz across how many cores? Does DOSBox even utilize multiple cores?

One core only.

No.
My Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz should be okay then.

It should perform better than my 2.2GHz Phenom. :(

But before using that shortcut, I would recommend using the Graphics Mode setup shortcut underneath it first :D

Is that the gog.com graphics set up option? I tried to use that and when I clicked "Save Settings" or "Start Game" I got an error prompt saying, "Error, game not installed."

You have to launch the graphics setup from the start menu shortcuts not from the game folder.
