I don't have them all, but out of the ones I have, I really like the fairy. If you sit in a chair or stand still for too long, she'll just chill out by sitting on your shoulder. It's awesome. She'll also heal you in a pinch. Saved me so many times with a full health restore, because I sometimes forget to grind up. Though I should. It would make things easier.

I llike that crazy ass sword familiar as well. When there are no enemies on screen, sometimes the thing will just get angry and cut the ground. Straight up psycho.

The floating knight is ok, but I didn't notice anything special it does when you're idle. I haven't used the book yet. I have one more that I forgot about because I've been too busy leveling the fairy.

You guys have any favorites? If so, what do they do? Idle animations? Combat effectiveness? All the goodies.

The book opens up in front of you so you can read it, if you sit for a while on a chair or in the saving room.

I like the knight the best for its damage output (and when you upgrade it, it has a special move that makes magical lances rain down your enemies, which is really good), but I didn't experiment much with the others, to be honest.

I'll have to try the book now. I wonder what's in it? Would be cool if an easter egg was there where if you sat idle with it for 666 seconds, it grants you some kind of power up or item.

I'll probably go back to the knight once I get the fairy to level 20. Lance rain storm sounds awesome!

I doubt they went that far. XD The little touch is nice, though.

Another good thing about the knight is that it also deflects projectiles at times. Again, though, no idea if the others have something cool once you upgrade them, I stuck with the knight for most of the run.
I only tested Bloodbringer. It is the best sword in game when you hit lvl99, it gets 55 atk, 1 atk more than Valkyrie sword's 54 atk. And it will change it's apperance at level 25, 50 and 75, pretty cool.
But that's all, no special moves, no special techniques at lvl99 (at least I haven't figured out yet, tried every tecnique sequence, and even that from Symphony of Night), just a normal sword.
I'm using the knight all of the time. He does a fair amount of damage, the lances are great and his protect ability comes in handy, too. He doesn't seem to have any idle animations though.

If you're using the fairy, go to the gardens and sit on the chair at the piano. Then wait :)
The Buer (drops from the Triwheel Buaers in Livre Ex Machina) can get in some pretty solid FPS against flloorbound enemies, and also blocks projectiles. Plus it's just metal. Bouncing it around with your attacks while it spews fire everywhere can get a bit distracting, though...

In case somebody hadn't noticed yet, ranking/grading/leveling up Bloodbringer the familiar will also power up Bloodbringer the weapon. Pity you can't have them equipped at the same time...

Also, much like in SotN, in addition to healing and having a lovely singing voice, Carabosse (the faerie) will also point out secrets for you by floating over and going "Up here!" A bit like Navi, yes, but much more useful and nowhere near as annoying. :)
If you haven't yet, sit down at the piano to play with Carabosse out.

But purely damage-wise I think Dullahammer-heads are unbeatable. They fly, they damage instantly on contact instead of needing to charge up like the knight or Bloodbringer and there's five of them, when they are fully ranked. At higher experience levels, they rip everything apart.

You can, unless they've fixed it. All you need is a free "Shortcut" slot. Leave the weapon slot empty and set the familiar slot to BloodbringertheFamiliar. Then equip BloodbringerTheSword, switch to that shortcut, and bam.

I used it from the time I got it until about halfway through the game, when other weapons finally started outpowering it.

Not true. They also need to do an attack to harm enemies, if they just float through them, they do not deal any damage.
Been using the book recently and just realised it comments when you save the game (was in town and on nintendo switch when it happened)

Fairy only heals if your have fairy healing items in your inventory, there's 2 types one for small healing and the other similiar to big potion. Fairy also points at breakable walls when level up :)

There are 4 fairy healing items; Faerie Medicine, Faerie Elixir, Faerie Allheal and Faerie Panacea. The first 2 can be dropped by carabosse and all of them can be made by combining faerie dust with the relevant healing item.

Not sure how benefical it woulf be to make them, however, you might have higher stock limites for the faerie items (9 Faerie Allheals as opposed to 4 Ex Potions)
I like the sword familiar. Levelled it up a lot and it started changing appearance, even. Is a bit slow, but hits hard; actually, harder than me! Together with the Wolfman shield shard, is a nice combo (you protect yourself, while the sword slashes).

The Silver Knight is interesting, but a bit tricky to "grade-up", since only a specific type of candles may drop its shard. I am planning to raise it up, next.

Every familiar looks useful, though. Will try them all. Fairy is like a priest, a utility one, which even uses unique and powerful potions, on you... Since the game is easy though, at least in Normal, i have never had any use for it, up to this point (half-way through Normal).
Since starting Nightmare difficulty, the only familiar I use is Dullahammer Head. While for normal mode I used Bloodbringer.

Didn't used Buer at all and barely used others. If you are going for boss medals, Carabosse is usless.
