Do *not* feel bad about playing this game on a lower difficulty.

It is notoriously brutal. I'd say "lightly broiled" is close to ultra-violence on the original doom, seriously.

I'm an old-school FPS player and I'm not ashamed to be playing on lightly broiled. With practice maybe I can get back to the higher difficulties.

Well, Lightly Broiled is basically the Normal setting, and it's playable on Normal. Can get a bit iffy when you don't know what you're doing, but when you get the hang of the weapons, you'll do fine. And there ain't anything bad about playing on normal.

Hell, there ain't anything bad about playing on any difficulty setting, lowest ones included. While I myself mostly stick to normal, I say if you're having more fun on Easy, play it on Easy and don't feel bad about it. It's your game and your time and all you should do is have fun with it.
