The game runs fine although I'm completely missing the hud, crosshairs and stuff. I tried one workaround listed in this forum for disappearing hud. IT fixed that but the game became laggy as hell. I could not undo that and messed up my whole game. Have there been any unofficial/fan made patches for this game I can make use of which will hopefully fix things?

Stating some info about your system and the changes you have applied, may help. For instance, you may need to set the game to run in compatibility mode for "Windows XP".

Anyway, I suggest you to use dgVoodoo 2, if your PC can handle it. There is this good guide by mamasume111.
