I don't ever remember any other fps games doing this.

I mean yes technically this is normal but also you should be loading manual saves when you die, not starting the level over.

Old shooters work this way. If you die, the game often restarts you in that level but with no weapons.

As they pointed out, you should save and load your game whenever you die.

Strictly speaking, you shouldn't save your game whenever you die. It's very unpleasant if you manage to save directly before you die. ;-)

Sorry for the bad sentence construction, I obviously mean he should save (when he is still alive and ideally in a safe situation) and whenever he dies, load that game instead of restarting the level with no weapons.

Oh my gosh, I totally did that as a youngster on some games and I stillll remember the rage.
