...because a review has a 2000 character limit!
* Having the digital extras as a separate purchase is surprising. The game is not super expensive; but it cost enough that I felt I was paying some money out of loyalty to the series. I would have liked the full package.
* It's sometimes possible to skip the title screen and begin loading the game while still on the start-up logos. Not every time; but sometimes.
* Relatively long load times. Worse, during the game there are occasional pauses when interacting with something, like the game is loading it on-demand.
* The controls are horrible: if you turn in a circle, the character sometimes follows a turning circle and sometimes "snaps" to a 90 degree turn.
* The character speeds up very quickly, sometimes it looks unnaturally fast. Then if you touch a piece of furniture or a wall you suddenly stop!
* If you enter the library by the ground floor then take the first floor exit; the character is seen to rise up through the floor (I guess it didn't correctly set the player's height off the ground when going up the stairs in the library, and needs to catch up to the correct height when leaving the library?)
* There seem to be multiple bugs with the input on the pause menu - sometimes it seems to be in a bad state. Also the d-pad does not work properly, the directions on the d-pad are rotated relative to the direction the menu is driven.
* In the study, it's possible to interact with the desk at a position (to the left) where the game will not navigate the character into place. If this happens, you are stuck and must reload.
* After completing the scene in the greenhouse and the conversation cutscene outside it; there is an option to speak to your companion, but they have nothing to say and you are locked waiting for the game to respond, you must reload a save game.
* The ghost interaction scenes are badly explained, it's tempting to hammer the A button to ensure you succeed in interacting; but if you do this, one extra A button press will skip the resulting dialog.
* The QTE inputs are somewhat pointless, they add no challenge, and there is no syncing of character animation to your input.
* There are many broken texture seams inside the house. At night they are not visible; but in chapter 2 when there is a daytime skybox, bright blue jaggy lines can be seen in most rooms.
* When your companion is holding the candle, they follow slowly and inefficiently - so you are often navigating in the dark.
* [GAME BREAKING] there is an item that is combined in your inventory several times during the game. At the end of the game, you can combine its last part before finishing a puzzle that needs its incomplete form. There is no way to disassemble it; you must load a previous save.
* There is a character you meet, who you immediately acknowledge who their mother and father where. A later part of the story hinges on the fact that you do not know who their mother is.
* There are no real puzzles after the first chapter.
* The game lacks new locations and new characters after the first chapter. The game is pretty small compared to the previous titles.
* The pacing of the exposition is really poor. The game just dumps it on you on occasions (characters just appear and tell you what to do next). Other times, your main character just assumes the nature and backstory of the Gordon curse, despite it not being revealed to him during the game.
* The main character's eyes often seem to be rolled round and totally white. Sometimes during cutscenes; often when walking towards the camera.
