I can see why you would think this, but I disagree. The game may look pretty, but it deals with adult issues in an innocent way. It deals with concepts of friendship, but also those of betrayal and standing up for what you believe in dispite what everyone thinks. Like rayman (also from Michel Ancel), BG&E presents a pretty, colorful world, but doesnt do it in a way that is childlike. The same dialogue could also be used in a much darker setting.
AVATAR:/_t2 #Q&_^Q&Q#USERNAME:obscurelyric#Q&_^Q&Q#GROUP:4I am sure any Jamaican would be equally offended by the Rhinos.

Why say that the rhinos at mammago's are racist stereotypes. The accent may be a stereotype, but it is true, as it is pretty much shared by most English speaking Jamacians, even if it is slightly stylised. Other than that, nothing about them is stereotypical. When was the last time you saw a Jamacian labelled as a overall-wearing-ripoff-artist-mechanic-rhino? ;p.
AVATAR:/_t2 #Q&_^Q&Q#USERNAME:obscurelyric#Q&_^Q&Q#GROUP:4With half my family Italian I was particularly upset by the gay Italian PA who can't even speak or pronounce Italian and who uses words completely out of context.

And no, Seccundo is not Italian. And he's not gay. I think. And by saying that Seccundo is gay, you are, according to you, conforming to and complying with a generalised stereotype, the very thing you were criticising Beyond Good and Evil for doing in the first place. ?????
I think you just have a complete incapacity to absorb and enjoy anything even remotely intelligent or different in the world of gaming. If it doesnt have blood, guts, gore or M16s I don't think you'd play it. Prove me wrong. I hope you do. But for now, go back to playing Scarface: The World is Yours until your mind opens up a bit.
EDITED: Looked wierd :D

lotr-sam0711: I don't see why anyone should be ashamed to play in this whimsical world and I think by the end of the game things get quite mature enough.

Chiming in a little late to this, but I did only get the game just a couple of days ago...
So... I, too, thought this was going to be like a Disney movie when it first started out. The graphics make the game look -very- cartoony, after all. Now, I was ok with that, even from the beginning. The way I saw it, if the game kept a fairly light tone throughout but still had a good story, I'd be fine with that. If it got a little darker but again, kept a good story, that'd be good, too.
(Spoilers for those who haven't gotten too far.)
I'm about three and a half to four hours in, and I've just found out they're smuggling humans in BOXES through some kind of factory. Vibes of "SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!", anyone? I'd say that's considerably more "mature," wouldn't you?
I've not disappeared, but I stand by my assessment. I'm entitled to make the assessment and I don't expect anyone to agree with it. I also played the game to completion so I feel validated in having an opinion.
I'm not a bald space marine nut, either. I am firmly in the adventure/rpg camp and have been for the past 20 years. My favourite recent 'game' is The Path, so I'm not some repressed nut who likes blowing things up.
I game to think, this title left me vastly under-stimulated. I'm glad others enjoyed it, but I didn't and another viewpoint doesn't hurt. I only hope my review (which wasn't based around gaming mechanics apart from one throw-away line) strikes a chord with someone who thinks like I do.
I'm not going to come back on any points pertinent to the game because I've made my point already; you're all free to disagree. You're also free to defend my accusation of immature as I'm free to defend any attack on myself.
I didn't enjoy it - sorry.
Was there really a need to revive this thread after 8 months of inactivity? I think you might need some new hobbies.
One thing is certain, I had as much need as you.
For the record: I'm not going out of my way to slate this game. I logged in, it said "new posts" and I clicked it. I had no idea my review made on the store page had been published on the forums (still not sure on the criteria used for that, it doesn't happens with all reviews) and I had no idea the thread on said forum was so old. I should have read the dates, but damned if I know why the system told me 8 months later that something I wrote had new replies. I didn't even know it had any replies.
Truth be told, I had forgotten all about this review.
Now if anyone wants to add their voice against (or even for) my review, then please do. If nobody can without throwing out personal insults, then I'd be obliged if this thread could be left to die.
In that case I apologize for that bit of snark. The forums do seem to act funky every now and then with respect to reporting whether or not new posts have been made.
