I get the same EAX error mentioned in some of the other posts, but none of the solutions I've seen (including the eax.dll download) work for me. The error appears and I get rid of it, but the game never launches. I can't launch the settings app either; it crashes immediately after the EAX error.
I have the latest audio and video drivers available installed already. What else can I try?

Tried this?

That lists a registry key for the "Registry Path" setting, but it kept telling me that the key was invalid. I searched the registry and couldn't find any path like that. I tried setting it up using the Game Path option, but that didn't solve the problem.

Anyone else have a suggestion? I'd hate to end up burning $10 on this game. After hearing so much about it, I really wanted to try it out :(
Ok, I skipped the EAX Unified install because I got the impression that it was just for non-Creative sound cards. I installed it and reinstalled BG&E, and now it runs fine. *facepalm*

Oh well the important thing is that you've got it running now. Hope you like it after all this messing about
