Ok, I'm using a Ramdisk for battletech to battle the insanely long load times despite me deleting most savegames, naturally it's limited in size, in my case, 40 GB.

I find it very inconvenient that battletech/GOG Galaxy downloads the updates to the same folder as the game. This in reality requires double the space and means, once the game is installed there simply is no room for the update files to extract.

You should do it like Steam, and have a user specified download folder, separate from the game folder.
