Don't think there is... I guess it's why so many aren't playing it, because the AI takes for ever...
Tip: Play in windowed mode and do random stuff in the background and have the game set to pause at every start of your turn.
That way no time is wasted on your end, and you can return to the game when you feel like it.

I know it's not what you have in mind, but it's a solution, also i guess the game is ANIMATION every enemys movement, even when you can't see it, try turn off battle animations, SHOULD speed up game play a little bit...

that is all i can suggest, sorry i can't be of further help :/
Try pressing F4. From the 204 patch notes:

AI is moving units 10 times faster (can be activated with F4 and should be deactivated if you have a slow machine).

sounds something went wrong during install, where did you install the game?

Do yourself a favour, never ever install a game in anything related 86 whatever!

I have for example a folder: D:\GOGgames\whatever

and hardly have any problem at all.

WIN is stupid and might not install correctly in 98whatever or even program files folder (has to do with permission rights). Hence installing it outside helps quite a bit ;)

SO I would suggest, if you do not have in a different folder, reinstall (after uninstalling ;) )
I had a previous saved game where I played the "hard way" (full 10min every time is was the AI's turn), and I just used that save game. To troubleshoot it I then tried to make a clean install without any setting at all, and in another drive as you have suggested but I still get the same error...

I guess I have to play the hard way then

Just for fun:

My directory shows me:

1006 files, 33 directories, with 337.326.452 Bytes

What about you?

And I just checked there is only the English version ;)

Just trying to remember if I did anything else. I know there was something about expanding your own turn to 30 minutes (you might want to check for this as well).

But otherwise, I also only did a full install.

One thing, might not be related, bu anyway: Did you install diretx9.0c?
