Torvald99: I know the game devs say that you WILL lose some soldiers. One of the tool tips also says "losing is fun." Sorry, but having to replace a level 5 soldier with a level 1 or 2 soldier, isn't fun. And your effectiveness in the game i.e. ability to carry out quests and win fights, just went down. I see this very much limiting the appeal of the game, to a wider audience.
deanphoto: Definitely the nature of the game. I have only ever played in Veteran Ironman since I bought the game, and this mechanic has kept me interested in the game for many hundreds of hours. I always have it open in the background so I can just jump in for a quick turn or two; it's like having a true opponent, like an ongoing chess-match. As such, even after many hundreds of hours of actual in-game time, I have never tired of the game, and haven't seen everything the game has to offer. If my story ends at "your company was ambushed by a gang of Alps at night in the swamp", then that's how it ends. Time to start a new story. This isn't a game that you just beat; it hand-feeds nothing to you.
Enjoy it for what it is. It's really a brilliant game.
I try to have multiple saves and try fights over and over again. At level 5, I have discovered running from undead! They kept flying away and respawning next to my archers. Even if I could kill them, they were tearing my archers apart. So...I ran from them and they chased me for a long time! lol
This game truly has some oddities to it. I still probably have too many "tanks" and not enough dps type warriors. I have 3 pikemen in the 2nd line, who seem to clean up. I just have a problem with sending out a couple of fighters, unprotected with a 2h axe of 2h sword, to reak havoc. I don't want them to die!
