If I try to start the game with no network connection, BattleBrothers.exe crashes (BattleBrothers.exe has stopped working.).

BattleBrothers.exe is attempting to connect to a CD Projekt Red server on startup. When is unable to connect, it crashes. I thought the GOG version was DRM-free? Why does it require a network connection?

Pathfinder: Kingmaker also tried to connect to a CD Projekt Red server on startup, but at least it did not crash if it was incapable of connecting.
Using the Galaxy install of BB I disconnected my internet and first tried to play just using the .exe and it worked just fine, then I tried launching through galaxy and it also worked offline.

Looks like it's on your end.
Hello,

Can I assume that you are with the support team, as your post appeared directly after I submitted a request for a refund?

From your post, I gather that Battle Brothers requires one of the following in order to launch:
1. GOG Galaxy
2. An internet connection

This does not sound like it is DRM free as stated on the store page. I have not bought from GOG in a long time. I thought I'd try it again with Battle Brothers. I am regretting this immediately.

To be clear, www.gog.com/galaxy states that:

"GOG Galaxy is fully optional because you don’t need it to play games on GOG.com. If you want to, you can simply download your game via your browser, install it manually, and launch it offline, just like we've always done it on GOG.com."

Please do not imply that the problem can be solved by installing GOG Galaxy. As stated in GOG's own webpages, Galaxy should not be required to play a game bought from GOG.

Battle Brothers does not launch under the conditions stated on:
1. The GOG Battle Brothers store page (no internet connection required)
2. www.gog.com/galaxy (Galaxy client not required)

Lol I'm not from the support team. I just happened to see your post and was concerned that perhaps the game required an internet connection so I tested it myself and concluded that it does not require galaxy or an internet connection as I mentioned in my initial post of having tested the game after unplugging my internet.
So it seems there may be something weird happening on your end that makes it look like the internet is required or something. I tried the game multiple times without the internet and each time it ran perfectly fine.

Are you using the non-galaxy version or the galaxy version? I tested with the galaxy version.

How does one install the "galaxy version" without installing the GOG Galaxy client? If Battle Brothers does not function unless one of:
1. GOG Galaxy client installed.
2. Internet connection required at launch.
... then the promises on GOG's webpages have not been met.

I am using the direct download installer from GOG. After installing, Battle Brothers crashes if launched without an internet connection. Once connected to the internet and allowed to talk to the CD Projekt Red server, it launches without crashing.

Send a ticket to support?
I'm using the Galaxy version, which means the GoG Galaxy client obviously. But I can still launch the game without using Galaxy by going to the game folder (F:\gog\Battle Brothers\win32\BattleBrothers.exe) and double-clicking the BattleBrothers.exe and it won't launch Galaxy. It works offline for me with zero issues both with Galaxy running and without it running, I've tested now four times.
Support replied, and the problem is resolved.

For anybody else having this problem:

If you whitelist the executable to allow it to connect to localhost, then it will launch even if it is unable to connect to GOG's servers. The crash occurred because BattleBrothers.exe (including the non-Galaxy version) attempts to check for Galaxy and crashes when it fails.
I exclusively run the non-Galaxy version + never had Galaxy installed and didn't have Battle Brothers crash on me even once?
