I was hoping somone could tell me what exactly carries over from Baldur's Gate to Baldur's Gate 2, if I choose to export my character. Do my actions in the first game affect things in the sequel, like they do in say, the Mass Effect games? Any information would be super helpful.

Your actions in BG1 don't affect anything in BG2, only your character and his equipment are imported, but your equipment is taken away when the game starts.

You keep the special abilities you learned in BG1 instead of getting them based on your starting alignment and in the starting dungeon there are a few item locations where you might find items your imported character had (usually instead of similar BG2 items) but that's all, you won't feel a real difference.

Some players have the golden pantaloons from BG1 in their equipment so they can combine them with similar items for some kind of hidden easter egg, but I wouldn't bother, you'll be more annoyed by the loss of inventory space during the game than enjoyed by the the hidden joke.

Thank you.
There are a few books you can find in BG1 that can boost your stats as well, the effects of which will carry over to BG2.
What is the process for exporting a character from BG1 to BG2, I can't seem to find a way to do this. Win 7 recently purchased games from GOG. Thanks for any help.

There are two ways:

1. Copy your final save folder (it will be called something like '000000002-Final-Save') from BG1 into your BG2 save folder (you *only* need this for import purposes; you cannot play this game in BG2).

2. Export your character manually in BG1 (go to the character screen in-game and select 'Export'), and copy the appropriate character file (*.CHR) from your BG1 'characters' folder into your BG2 'characters' folder. Note that character file names have a limit of 8 letters, so choose a short name at export time.

In both cases, when you start a new BG2 game, instead of creating a new character press the 'Import' button and then choose either 'character file' or 'saved game'.

That's it.

I bid Hickory many thanks for the sage advice, now I may complete my quest for my growing divinity.
