What class PC do you guys feel would best compliment a party consisting of:

Jahiera
Cernd
Haer'dalis
Jan
Anomen

Just curious...

Something with arcane magic, either a magic or a sorcerer or a multiclass with mage as one of the classes - Jan is at most a secondary/support mage - and in BG2 and TOB you will need a lot of magic in later parts of the game.

Note that if you will keep Imoen after spellhold you will not need another mage, as Imoen is quite powerfull enough to handle the arcane part of magic by herself, but if you will keep the party you mentioned for the entire game you definitelly need a mage or sorcerer for your main character.

Kensai/Mage.

Sorcerer

I think a front line fighter is better addition to that line up. A barbarian would be my choice, I prefer them to berserkers even though the latter is definitely a stronger class.

Not the best pick for power, mind you, sorcerer or fighter/mage would be better, but barbarian kind of fits with the rest for me.

I'm hearing a lot of things echoing what I was thinking already. Jan and Haer'dalis are secondary casters for the most part (though in my 4 man shorty party Jan's doing okay), so an arcane could be good. And at the same time there are no real warriors either, though everyone but Jan has moderate combat abilities. I've actually never played as a Kensai>Mage, Sorcerer or Barbarian, so those are all appealing options... leaning toward Kensai>Mage... hmmm...

How about a shorty party with:

Korgan
Mazzy
Jan
