It's no different than the disc version, unless you played the disc version on XP or earlier and are playing the GOG version on Vista/7.

If you are playing on Vista or 7, and have UAC turned on, you'll need to navigate to:
C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\GOG.com\Baldur's Gate Complete Saga
to find the character files.

This process can also be avoided by installing outside of Program Files.
Ha so simple but thanks for responding!

C:\program files\gog.com\baldurs gate\characters (find the name used for your export file/char1 if you beat the game)

copy that file into

C:\program files\gog.com\baldursgate2\characters

create a new game in bg2, click import character in the character creation screen, click character file, and it should be in that list.

Hi, I've got question. I haven't played BG II for a long time and I exported some character from BG I many years ago for the last time. My problem is I gained max level with TotSC. It was level 9. Now when i import into BG II I get bumped by 1 level to level 10 (why so when starting level is 8 for assassin otherwise?) and other characters are adjusted according to it. This means Minsc is level 10 too and has 800 000 experience points. This is 600 000 more than my PC has. Is every char going to be this way? This is ridiculous why should they have 4 times more xp than my PC does? Am I doing something wrong with importing? I tried importing from save as well as from character file.
